About Bathukamma Celebrations
Bathukamma is a widely celebrated floral festival of Telugu people. This is considered as the state festival of Telangana. Brathukamma colloquially known as Bathukamma means “Life giving mother”. Bathukamma is worshipped in the form of floral pyramid for 9 days starting Mahalaya Amavasya (Bhadrapada Amavasya) through Ashwayuja Astami (Durga Astami). On the concluding day Bathukamma is revered as Saddula Bathukamma or Pedda Bathukamma. It is the festival for feminine felicitation and on this special occasion, women dress up in traditional costumes, gather together, sing and offer prayers to Gauri Devi in the form of Bathukamma
